Too Much Time On My Hands

For the past little while I have had way too much time on my hands. If you’re wondering why, it’s because I had heart surgery on January tenth. Thank you for everything you guys have done, and for all the kindness you have shown me. I am completely recovered and back to school and dancing and hopefully lots of sewing.

Anyway,  I had a lot of time to work while I was recovering so I finished that afghan I was working on.

It is a simple, giant granny square (58″ square)  with lots of bright colors–two rows of color (any color really) and one row of white. It is a birthday present for a family member.

Thank you all for everything you do,

When it is time to make pincushions, one must  be very careful to gauge what you are getting yourself into.

I had selected about a dozen pairs of 5″ squares (Each pair makes one pin cushion.) from my mom’s and my’s 5″ square box when I decided to call one of my friends over for a while. She prefers hand sewing to quilting, but she understands the obsession and has excellent color sense. While she was over we were talking, and I was doing a little cutting, seems pretty harmless, right? But the 5″ square box was sitting right there and right on top was a good color combination. Practically before either of us really knew what we where doing we had 38 pairs! They where all equally cute, so how on earth could we downsize? Oops, maybe we’re a little  too enthusiastic! Oh well, what are two twelve-year-old sewers to do?

But of course, my friend was a gigantic help. Buttons and ric-rac were rummaged through in abundance (on my bedroom floor, which I might add did not make my mother terribly pleased, but I was finishing that project so I didn’t get in too much trouble ) to find just the right match. Thanks to my mom’s big pile of junk (or so she calls it) we completed the task.

So now all 38 are completed pin cushions. And what a massive pile it is!

Of course, my friend was sent home with a pin cushion as a present for her mom, which we accidentally made in perfect colors to match their house.

The owner of the quilt in the post Not As Scary As I Thought It Would Be ordered four pin cushions,  two from the leftover quilt fabric, and two of my choice.

Another was set aside as a present.

That means 32 brand new never before seen pin cushions! I won’t post them all here, but here are a few.

Miniature Messenger

I need to get back to posting regularly, but at least I’m posting now. Over the past week or so I’ve been really busy. Can life slow down? Please!!! Homework, ballet and an 18-mile hike do take up time. I did get some sewing done though and  the finished projects are  cute!

First in line is a miniature mini messenger that was custom-made for a customer’s granddaughter.

The next one I made was a normally sized messenger in my absolute favorite colors.

The third one is for the patriotic of heart: red, white, and blue make it perfect for the fourth of July or any day.

I am really excited for the upcoming sewing time. (If it happens):)

You can see all the bags available for purchase in the BAGS FOR SALE tab above.  Only $15 each, plus shipping, they are a great present, maybe even for you.

I Find Some Time

It turns out that you can find some time to work on projects during the school year. With very little home work I found time to sew last week. Here’s what my  free-time turned out.

Three awesome mini messenger bags! Hmm, maybe I will be able to get things done.

This orange one is coming to school with me today. I will post about people’s reaction later.

Mini Messenger

The Mini Messenger bag! For my very first fashion design, it turned out fairly well don’t you think?

It has a finished size of 9 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ x 2″, with a 18″ drop. The perfect size to haul stuff in.

A pen and note-book,( you have to write down those ideas!) lotion, A book, and a wallet. With room to spare! This little bag is sturdy!

I will post a tutorial on the Mini Messenger soon!
